The classic children's book Where The Wild Things Are makes a terrific lesson that is literacy based for the Halloween season.
My kids and I are working on their understanding of how to draw using some of the Elements of Art; shape, line, color, pattern and texture.this power point which outlines some connections between Sendak's Wild Things and some mythological wild things from history.
We assemble our wild things with brass fasteners-fascinating objects to the 2nd grade mind.
It's kind of scary!
There's a terrific vintage moving picture book made famous by the wonderful Weston Woods Studio. Sendak even had a hand in it's production. You can find it here via New Hampshire Public Television.
