Whooo Is It?

                                             

Happy Monday Artists!

Last night I was getting ready for bed and before I brushed my teeth, I heard a very loud noise outside so...I opened up the window to get a better listen and this is what I heard! 

According to the site Wildlife of Connecticut the two owls I heard are called The Barred Owls, whooo look like this:

There are hundreds of types of owls in the world! And it's fun to listen for owl-sounds at night. I found an owl how-to on Art is Fun, a terrific site by an art teacher named Thaneeya. 

Can you draw an owl using this how-to? Maybe you can draw your own owl, using a photograph or your imagination?!

Harbingers of Spring!

Hi Artists! 

I missed you all during our time on staycation! While we were away, Spring was arriving.

How do I know that? Well, I saw some signs of Spring in the woods on walks with my dogs. A harbinger is another word for a sign.  

I always know that Spring is around the corner when I see the forsythia in bloom. 

This is a branch of a forsythia.

Come on a walk in the woods with me and my dogs and we'll show you some harbingers of Spring!

Then come back to the studio and we can draw a forsythia together...

Grab a pencil and any kind of art materials to add color to your drawing! You can even use paint, or keep your art black and white. 

After each lesson remember to ask yourself these artful questions:

• What do you see ?
• What do think about what you see ?
• What do you wonder about ?

Hello, Miro!

               

       Hello Artists! I'd like to introduce you to artist Joan Miro.

•  Miro was a Spanish painter who loved to use bright colors and dark lines in his playful paintings. He was born in Barcelona Spain in 1893.
• Miro was called a Surrealist. Surrealism is a very interesting style of painting. It is painting about things that can appear in dreams, fantasy stories or fairy tales or anything in your imagination.

      Watch this video biography about Joan Miro, first:

   Miro has many, many colorful, playful paintings. 
When you see a couple of them, you'll be able to notice his style. 

   While you look at each of these Miro paintings Think:

• What kinds of shapes do you see?
• What kinds of lines do you see?
• What colors do you see?
• Do you see any details that interest you?
• Do anything in the paintings remind you of something in real-life?
• What do you think about the names that Miro gave his painting?

People have a lot of fun animating Miro's paintings! I think it's because they are so colorful and interesting!
