Faith Ringgold Friday!

                            Hello Roxbury Artists!

I hope your week of distance learning was fun and interesting...sometimes new things can be challenging-but I know that together, we can all make it work!

I told you I would do a post about Faith Ringgold and here it is! I love Faith Ringgold's art and story-telling because she is someone who cares about others and uses her talents and creativity to tell stories that are meaningful and inspirational, from her own point of view.

Here's something she said about the importance of being your unique self and sharing yourself with the world:

"You can't sit around and wait for somebody to say who you are. You need to write it and paint it and do it."

She knows that art and artists have the power to change the world!
Watch this short video about Faith Ringgold's life and work:

Here is Faith Ringgold reading her book titled, Tar Beach
After listening to the story, answer the questions below:

1. Do you think Cassie in the story could really fly? Or was it just in her imagination?
2. If you could fly, where would you go? Why would you choose to go to that place or time? Would you bring anyone with you? Who would you bring?
3. Do a drawing of you flying and where you would go.
4. Write a story to go with your drawing, if you'd like, and share it with me on Class Dojo or send it to me at school!

See you on Monday, Artists! Be unique! Be you! Be creative! Tell your own story!
